I posted this on the KTW but thought I'd ask here too:

What is the correct circlip orientation - gap up or down? This is on my T500 but it's the same style circlip as the triples.

thanks

Frank

Thanks for the reminder Jim! We've had very strange riding weather so far this year and I've only been out a few times on my H1. My H2 has been off the road since last year (I have to choose between one of these to insure) but I'll switch the insurance back soon. I like them both though! The H1 has almost as many thrills and a *lot* better mileage.

Just curious, what are the approximate mileage numbers? I'm getting about 28 mpg on my H2 under normal conditions, and about 22 when I'm at Deal's Gap. :-)

I think the H2 gets 24-25 (with 34mm flatslides and TC pipes); I used to get 18 before I leaned it down! The H1 gets high 30's most of the time (stock except pods and UFO's.) The UFO's let me run #20 pilots. The H1 doesn't wheelie though...

Uhmmm,
Not trying to push any buttons, I didn't see it mentioned otherwise, and I don't know if you know this technique, but...

In my experience, circlips are stamped out, so there is a "round" edge, and a sharp edge.
In some instances, you cannot make this orientation matter.
In ones that you can, when there might be some sort of 'push' against the circlip, orient the "round" edge against whatever might be making the 'push'.

Otherwise, if for whatever reason, the circlip "relaxes", or has become sprung a little, or an incorrect one was utilized, the "rounded" edge may help the circlip out of it's groove.

The other consideration is that the circlip was stamped, and therefore, the sharp edge ought to be flatter than the "rounded" edge, and should stay parallel better, to the sides of the machined groove in the housing or on the shaft.

Most of the aftermarket circlips are steel wire, so are round all the way round....... :P
