Even in transmissions?

We are talking piston pin circlips, unless the subject changed and I missed it.....

On piston clips, I do the 6:00 position.

For transmission clips, I try to get the gap in the clip at a "flat" on the shaft, in between the gear dog grooves.

Don't forget that some Yamaha transmission circlips will work just fine on our transmissions. Just match the shaft diameter on the transmissions, and use the clips for that shaft diameter.

I view circlips as a ONE USE item, once on, and back off, trash can is where they live next. I am into making all sorts of tools and fixtures myself. That said, for transmission end play settings, I made a full set of old circlips into groove setters. I cut away some of the curvature of the clip so it can be installed from the SIDE of the shaft, not from the end, somewhat like an "E" clip, so it holds the gear being measured and shimmed in place, then removed for final installation/stack build. The clip looks like a large letter "C", instead of almost a full letter "O" with a cut.

WHOOPS!
Sorry, I didn't catch that it was wrist pin clips.... That never entered my mind...
Circlips, inner and outer, and circlip pliers...

Not needle nosed pliers and piks and probes....

And whoever said it, was right: ONE time use!
