Post subject:  The centerstand on my H2a broke off

I tried to put my purple 750 on the centerstand the other day and it fell over on the right side. I wondered what the heck happened and when I stood it back up I saw that the left leg had broken off and thats why it tipped over. I put it on the lift and figured out that the holes in the frame mounts for the connecting tube were so egged out that the cotter key had slipped through the mounting hole. I had a friend of mine cut some new brackets and I cut the old ones off and mounted the new ones. They fit great and my stand has no play and works very nice. I still have to paint and re-assemble. I bought a new stand from Burak at Z1 parts and it is a nice piece. As far as I can see this is the only good way to fix a wobbly centerstand. I had Caleb make 5 sets so I have 4 extra if somebody needs a set. I did all the work while the bike was on the lift.

Good job, so many of us dig doing this and coming up with solutions.

We usually see this because some owners/users don't carefully bring the bike into the stand, they get the bike lumbered up to the straight up position, and let the full weight of the bike ram the stand into place. This is a problem for what you had break, but some people cannot manage the weight of the bike once it is straight up on the stand, and the full weight rams itself into the mounts, stop and stand.

For some, these bikes are simply too heavy to get them into the stand easily. Too bad we don't have some sort of hydraulic loader to slow and buffer the bike onto the stand once it is in the over center position, it would help.

So, when you get the bike up centered, let it come back on the stop EASILY, no slamming into it. I know you didn't let it get that way, but, previous owners sure seem to have.

Been busy doing what I retired from two and a half years ago, didn't want to get back into it, but got conned into it....again,

Nice, I have had to make frame repairs on both of my H2's. Any of those center stand blanks available?

I can send you a set Carl, just PM or email me your mailing address. Dave, the mounting brackets and attaching tube were worn out from what you stated(plus 50 years of vibrating)but I finished off the stand myself. From the first time I put this bike on the centerstand, and I am a centerstand guy, always have been, I noticed that when I lifted up on the grab bar the bike would try to tip towards the right side. Instead of going underneath and checking out the problem(which was the combination of various degrees of wear on the mounting parts)and correcting it I would pull the bike towards me as I was lifting on the bar and basically balance the whole bike on the left side of the stand untill the stand came over center and locked on the frame. This last time it was too much for the whole works and the leg failed. It was caused by my lazyness when it comes down to it, I should have fixed it sooner.

Here it is done and functional. It's probably been a while since there was air under the back tire when it was on the stand. I did lube the chain and paint the area I missed on the cross tube.

That's not an O-Ring chain, it needs lubrication, sir.
