Hi all
Could someone let me know how to remove the speedometer gear as shown in the attached pic, I am looking to change the 55x68x7 oil seal which i believe is located under it - is that where it is?
Thanks
Mark

If I've had mine out, it's been decades. Have you tried pulling it firmly?

Welcome to the board, Mark!

Hi jim
Yes tried pulling and twisting both ways to a degree, it didn't move so thought i ask in here as don't want to damage it. Hoping someone has removed one and will say you need to do this to get it off.

Does it come out?
Is it a seal or backing plate for the grease?
I don't see how it would work otherwise, without the gear removed.

Thats what i am trying to establish, according to the exploded parts diagram its a seal. I found a pic of the gear speedo ring and its not threaded on the inside so assume it either pulls or twists off but dont want to go putting any force on it until i know how it comes off.

I can see that it is ‘staked’ , someone didn’t intend for it to come off.
What is the application?

Its off at last!!! I heated the ring up with a blowlamp, then with the wheel on the floor and it bring stood on, used a long "L" shaped piece of metal as a lever and carefully worked my way round and round gently prying it off. Replaced seal and its all back together so thats how u remove one if anyone needs to know.

Good, thanks for letting us know. I assume you're going to stake it in place once it's back on.
