So today I am troubleshooting a weak spark condition on my S2A project.
I've confirmed that my spark plug wires are junk (likely original) and I'm pretty sure this is the root cause of my problem but leading up to this conclusion I ohmed out my coils and got the following results:
Primary 4.5 Ohms for all three coils (spec is 4.0)
Secondary, 7.75K / 8K / 7.75K Ohms. Spec is 6.7K Ohms.
Readings taken at 65 degrees F

Guessing this is OK but thought I would run it past the experts.

Oh, one other question.
I noticed that with the key on,(engine not running) the coils get pretty warm. Is this normal?

Thanks!

Did you subtract the resistance of your meter leads from the primary reading? Touch them together, get a reading, and subtract that from the reading of the primary.

The measurements look OK in any case.

Yes, if the points are closed and the engine is not running but the ignition switch is on, current is flowing full-time through the coil primary, and it will get hot. That's normally avoided if possible.

Hi Jim!
Thanks for the reply. Good to know my coils check out.
I use an analog meter. I touch the leads together and zero the meter. Then take the reading.
