Last year I bought a new set of Wossner pistons and had the cylinders bored and pistons fitted. I set them all aside then and now I'm finally ready to start installing the top end. But when I went to check the ring end gap I noticed that Wossner only included one ring per cylinder. What about the other rings? Are you supposed to reuse the lower ring and expander?

When I bought the motor the seller had taken it apart to help with shipping and I wasn't concerned that he didn't include the pistons since I was planning on replacing them anyway. The guy was a little sketchy and I think he didn't send the pistons to cover up that one may have melted a little.

Looking at the site I bought the pistons from I see that Wossner normally only includes one ring per piston. I also see separate ring sets sold but that means I'd have two top compression rings and I didn't see the expander included in those sets.

So, is it normal to reuse the lower ring and expander?
Is there a site that sells individual rings and expanders?

Confused in CT

Wössner pistons come with two rings each. You do not reuse any old rings. You should contact the company you bought the pistons from and tell them you didn't get all the rings your should have.

Okay, I'm a dummy. When I opened the package, the two rings were stuck together and looked like one ring. Doh!

What about the expander? Do you need an expander with the Wossner rings?

The Kawasaki parts catalog only lists a ring set, not individual rings. Any sources for them? My guess is that the expanders are prone to wear and also shouldn't be reused. I'd hate to have to buy a full set just to get the expander.

Wössner pistons don't use expanders.

I was hoping someone would say that!

Thanks, now to finish the top end.
