Hoping for a tip here. This is for an H2 that I bought a few years back and not have had on the road yet. When I fill the oil tank, it slowly leaks onto the floor. The tank and line appear to be OK so I am wondering if it is the pump itself. Kind of a real basic question I know but thoughts on what to look at next would be appreciated.

Hi Michael, welcome!

There are several fittings that could be leaking, as well as the pump itself. You may have to clean things up and look to see where the oil is coming from.

Also, be aware that oil can also leak into the engine, and if a tablespoon or two gets in there it can transfer to the combustion chamber when you try to start it, hydrolock the piston and bend a rod or worse.

There is also a vent to the trans that it could be leaking from. Temperature changes can cause oil to leak from it.
Paper towel placement can help determine where it is coming from.

Yes, the transmission vent! If your 2-stroke oil and transmission oil are different colors, you can tell which oil is leaking.

Hi, thanks for the ideas. It is definetly the 2-stroke oil. It's bluish in color. I used AMS Oil, 2-stoke synthetic, Interceptor.

Don't know if I am comfortable starting to rip things apart. Anyone know of a relly good triple mechanic/shop in South Jersey?

Thanks

You don't need to take anything apart to find the leak, just look carefully.
