Hi. I spend most of my time on the Canadian board but need some input here. I have taken over an H2B engine in H1A frame project and have this engine mount boss question. The bosses have a sunken cup shaped bottom with a plug in them. All the plugs are not there and I can't find them in the parts manual.
Are the plugs necessary or can I mount the engine in the frame without them? Is there a part number for them ?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave

It is my understanding that some H2B engines were fitted or made to fit rubber mounts. Some mounts that were drilled for them were not fitted with rubber mounts and instead had a plug inserted. Since it wasn't adopted there would not be a part number for them.

Have new bushings machined up. You need them and they are easy to make.

Or you could have the non-drilled bosses machined, and then fit new repro rubber bushings in ALL of the bosses to significantly dampen the vibration of the motor within the frame. I believe there is a german manufactured kit of these rubber bushings available somewhere online. Having just the missing aluminum bushings machined might be the cheaper route to go, but just depends on your desired end result.

Here's some info on rubber mounting. Good luck.

I was looking at rubber mounting because the PO had used Permatex black to hold the bushings in and it looked like rubber mounts. It looks like he tried to do it but wrecked one boss by drilling too deep and breaking right through. Much to my surprise when I popped out one of the plugs, I found the cupped boss. Rather than have a plug made by a machine shop for that crappy boss, I got another set of cases really cheap. So, I'm taiking the path of least resisance or , the lazy way out or, more appropriately the chicken way out.
Thanks for the input.
Dave

New to me rescued bike, engine was out by DPO admission.
What am I seeing here? Remnants of "highway peg" mounts, circa 70's?
Looks like a couple 1/2-13's used as shims? The stepped spacers... are the misplaced Kawi parts? Or the frame biting J.C. Whitney pegs mounts I remember seeing?

I can't tell from the photo, but my first guess would be an home-made rubber mount attempt. Are there rubber pieces in there?

Sorry for the sketchy photos. Just trying to figure out how/why the too long a bolt got here. Professional mechanic, so I know it all needs to come apart for remediation.

It looks like someone found a piece of threaded rod, it was too long, and he didn't feel like cutting it off and possibly threading it farther.
