Post subject:  Clutch Hub Lock Ring/Thrust Washer Part Number 92022-114

Hello Forum Members,

I am getting ready to assemble a 72 H2 engine and was reading the Glenn's Manual and the Kawasaki H Series Manual. The washer that was removed from the clutch basket had two dimples in it that align with the the indentations. The parts manual is calling this a Thrust Washer with a part number of 92022-114, which is just a large flat washer. The Glenn's Manual refers to it as a lock washer and that after the nut is installed to bend up part of it so stop the nut from coming loose. There is also a large star washer there too.

Refer to page 92 in the Glenn's manual, #53.

I've disassembled 3 engines so far and all are the same, two dimples and none have been raise to one of the flats on the nut. The Kawasaki manual is very vague on putting it all back together. Most videos I've watched they are all using the beat up washer. I was wondering why they are not just sourcing a new one?

Is Part Number 92022-114 the correct washer? Do you use a small punch to make the dimples? Has anyone followed the Glenn's manual and raise an edge of the washer to a flat of the nut?

Thanks for any info you can pass along on this issue.

Ed

Wow, vague memory, but I believe I bent the washer when I put mine together in 2020. It's certainly not going to hurt anything to do that.

I know the sacrificial washer your are speaking that resides under the star-lockwasher. I have taken a plain washer with correct ID/OD and used a center punch to recess it into the clutch hub dimple recessions and make my own anti-rotation dimples. The flat washer gives the star-lockwasher something replaceable and harder than aluminum to bite into however a very tiny bit of red thread locker on the threads is not a bad thing.
