I need to get a battery for my '72 H2 750. I don't want lead acid.
What is a good out there, Lithium Ion, AGM, any recommendations?

I've used generic AGMs in my H2 for quite a few years. I had to put push-on connectors on the wires, but after that it's easy to change. The positive battery terminal is a 1/4" tab and the ground is a 3/16" tab. It's a little smaller than the original battery, so I used some foam rubber to fill the gaps.

Like this one, but this is just an example, so if you go this route, shop around.

Lithium ion is the way to go. I have 3 Shorai which I'm running in my H2, S3 and TZR 250.. they are incredible: tiny, light (less than 2 lbs) and you never have to charge them. I bought them 8 years ago.

My only issue with Lithium Ion is fire. I have seen a battery booster pack, as well as the old videos of cell phones burning.
If the charging system mis-behaved and overcharged, what would the results be? It is an old electrical system.

I run MotoBatt's AGM in both my H bikes...

MotoBatt makes great batteries. I just replaced one in my KH400 that lasted about nine years. MotoBatt MB5.5U fits the KH400 and the H2 battery box.

Jim's suggestion is cool because the batteries are inexpensive and that battery in particular will fit into the slim H2 battery box.

I've gotten long life out of the MotoBatt batteries. Kinda wished they weren't yellow though.

I will probably get the Motobatt.
It looks like the MB5.5U Motobatt 12V AGM Battery is the recommended replacement for the H2's 12N5.5-4A.

I guess that's possible - the only battery fire (explosion) I've seen was an overcharged AGM .. blowed up real good!

About 45 year ago I had a regular car battery in my boat, on a trailer, being charged in the driveway. The family went out to dinner and a thunderstorm came by while we were gone. When I got back, the battery was blown open. It was a Sears Die Hard. My cousin worked at a Sears auto center and convinced the local Sears to replace it under warranty.

I have theories about why it blow apart, but they're just theories. The charger is fine to this day.
