Today I got the disassembly done for the new Darth and Steve oil lines install on the Phoenix Project. Joe Byrd was kind enough to set the lines up for me and install the new check valves and springs. I had to reclock the #2 line and inadvertently unscrewed the banjo fitting. I carefully reassembled it and all is well.
Beautiful craftsmanship

I will tighten everything and then prime and leak check the system with my drill next chance I get to work on it.
The fit appears to be perfect.

Lookin’ good Tim!

I have my work cut out for me to get either of bike #2 ready. As you would guess, the RZ350 is sitting on GO. :D

My RD350 is pretty much ready. It needs a good clean up and a new headlight ring. I am running the aftermarket headlight bucket from Economy Cycle. I have a new one on order. The RZ needs new steering stem bearings and they are on the way as well. I am not looking forward to taking the front end off.

Bike has been sitting for 6 months because I was afraid of the bad check valves (s). It took about 30 seconds with the pump wide open running the drill to fill the lines and pump oil up to the intakes.

All 3 needles and seats and /or floats stuck as the gas had evaporated in the float bowls. Thank God for 100LL. No gum or varnish. Then it took about 10 kicks before it started and shortly after oil fouled all 3 plugs. Plugs out kicked about 50 times gas off. Put in another old set of plugs and got it to run on all 3 and eventually idle. All 3 pipes are smoking evenly so hopefully all is well. I also took a measurement from the oil filler neck to the oil in the tank and will re-check it before I start it again. All in all a good afternoons work. Thanks Darth and Steve for a beautiful set of lines. Thank you to my dear friend Joe Byrd for setting up the new balls and springs and answering all my questions.

Thanks I have had the lines in my hoard for years. I bought them back when Darth and Steve still made them. I understand they are no longer being made. I will get another set of check balls and springs for my old lines and ask Joe to go through them as well and keep them for spares.

Tim, did you happen to do a dry air pressure test on the check valves before priming and mounting them up??? If so, what was the "pop-off" pressure for each??

If memory serves Joe sets them at 4.5. I didn't check them. I just installed them. No drop in oil quantity after 48 hours.

4.5 is right where it should be, good. Too low, too much oil pumped. We also used to back the pumps way down, too. Then, we'd set them to the last line on the pump "wheel", ENGINE STOPPED, full throttle opening.
