Hi, I've just about finished restoration of my 72 H2 but when attempting to ride it, there was so much clutch drag that shifting is almost impossible. Shifting into neutral at a stop won't happen. I have replaced everything except the clutch basket and drive hub since neither are worn and the shaft bushing is free and smooth operating. I replaced the release mechanism, first with a fancy brass one that I found out didn't push the plates apart far enough, then an OEM. After trying different friction plates (now on OEM), new drive plates, expansion springs, clutch springs and clutch cable the drag is reduced but still there. Still can't shift into neutral while stopped. I'm using ATF for trans fluid as per the factory manual. I don't want to damage the shift forks by riding it this way. Does anybody know anything else I can try? When I first got this bike back in the 90's, I rode it and there was no clutch drag at all. My original H2 back in the 70's never had clutch drag problems. I'm stumped!
