Hi guys, I bought some IMD pistons for my 74 H1 engine. They have an arrow on the top of the pistons that I was told should face
the exhaust ports. Does anyone concure with this info? thanks, Doug

Stock pistons have an arrow that goes toward the exhaust port, so I assume these are the same. I haven't heard of IMD before though. They seem to have good contact information on their site.

What Jim said, an arrow is always going to point forward.....

I used IMD pistons and rings on my Kz1000P a few years ago. They are made in India I believe and sold out of the UK.
No issues and yes, the arrow points forward.

Most pistons have a "Sipes Angle", an offset from center of the piston for the piston pin. This makes for an easier transition thrust reduction when the piston rocks over at both TDC, and BDC. Our pistons should have a .50 mm (.020) Sipes offset to the intake..

The offset is twords the rear of the piston, which is why the arrow indicates install to the exhaust, making the offset to the intake area of the piston.

Some very high performance drag race automotive specialty pistons don't have a Sipes offset, and their service lives are in the 5 to 7 mile flange, a quarter mile at a time. Those non-Sipes pistons are not for long distance engines.
