I have had all of my aluminum parts vapor blasted. Now I am trying to polish the parts. From everything that I have read, i started with 220, then 400, 600, 800, 1500 and finally 2500 grit sandpaper. After that, I went thru the 3 stages of buffing. The problem that I am having is small pitting on the aluminum. I have been able to sand out the scratches but not the pits.

You just have to keep grinding away with the 220 until the pits are gone and then work your way up again. Sometimes it takes a long time and a lot of patience to get it right.

Right, and I don't usually go much past 400 or 600. A course buffing wheel with tripoli will take it from there if it's a serious wheel. Not that this has anything to do with my H2.

Has anyone ever tried using a DA to sand the aluminum. It seems to work pretty good and doesn’t leave scratches. Not sure if there are any negatives to using one.

It's funny that back when I first got the H2 and went with the blue and black scheme there were some motorcycle guys I knew who thought it was crazy. But now black is very common for trim. I guess I was 40 years ahead of my time.
