Hello all

I have a 71 H1 500. It has a hot start issue, it wont start after a ride. Pilots are set as per the tuning guide. 32.5 1/1/4 out at 2000rpm.
3rd clip, 112 main on higgspeeds
Thinking its not fuel as it idles and runs good on ivans kit. Plug are wet after a few kicks, put in dry plugs and struggles to fire, a little bit of throttle and it fires up. Probably cooled down a bit by then.

So i checked my plug caps 0-1ohm. Plugs are all new.
Then i checked my coil, primarys at 4ohms and the secondary ht to negstive 10 ohms on the 1k setting so 10'000 ohms. Struggling to find figures in the manual

Any idea what the figure should be before i buy a new coil.

Many thanks.

You can verify that the problem is ignition by quickly connecting three spare plugs, laying them on the heads, and kicking.

3.4 ohm primary
6700 ohm secondary

All plugs firing, if my resistance is too high i wont have enough energy in the spark to ignite the fuel in the cylinders.

Thanks for the figures.

That is not necessarily true as it applies to coil secondary... not saying your coil is good or bad but the statement is not correct as applied to coil secondary.
Before buying new coil, turn airscrews in 1/4 turn and see if that makes a difference and do NOT use choke when hot.
Be sure plugs are gapped correctly.
Correction: Airscrews OUT 1/4 turn.

Having to open the throttle a little to get it to start when hot is an indication that it's flooded.

Thank you both for your time, ill bring the air screw in and have a play. Makes sense its flooded.

Had the same problem regarding starting when i was running the factory set up a year or so ago. I was on 30 pilot the daft thing didnt want to play.

Carbs are off at the moment, just making sure its clean before i Paste the inlets carefully.

Ill report back what it does this time.

Airscrews OUT 1/4.
Or if you have carbs off and still have #30 pilots, put them in.

You guys nailed it on a 30 pilot 1 1/2 out. Starts everytime.

Thankyou all for your time. Regarding the coil its working, so ill Leave that be.

I also sealed the grooves In the carb flanges and a little bit of sealant on the intake flanges. It pulls likes a freight train.
