It has always been my way to pull the cylinder and look at the rod, parts, not just blindly hope all is well.

Yeah, that is a lot of work, but welding up cases and rebuilding cranks, re-sleeving damaged cylinders is a lot more cost and labor intensive.

But did
the compression test 130 on all 3 does that not indicate the rod is not bent?

Would a squish test show a bent rod or do you need to have done a previous one to compare to?

A squish test would show a bent rod. Just compare squish on all cylinders.

Well I didn’t want to pull the cylinder so I used an endoscopy and it does not appear to have a bent rod. And compression test was 130 x 3. I did a drip test on the check valves and 2 of them had no leakage but the suspect cylinder leaked about 2 ml. in 3 days. That could amount to about 6 ml. or so after sitting after 10 days. Not enough to cause severe hydro lock? What does everyone think? Also the petcock did not leak. When the kick starter got tight it was not with a kicking motion it was just cocking of the kick starter and it was tight. So I think I got lucky? I have some VM 34s w/UFO’s I am going to put on and run the bike. I was told I do not need to use the old heat insulators just the supplied rubber manifolds from Niche. Have others that use 34’s without the insulators? Thank to all that have replied and are going to.

Easiest way to measure squish clearance on assembled engine.

Pull all 3 plugs.

With thick dead soft plumber's solder, .060 should be thick enough, bend the solder to fit into the plug hole and fit against the side of the bore

Slowly run the piston through its TDC and down the bore

Remove the solder and read compressed thickness. That is the squish clearance.

I checked the squish clearance on all 3 and I got around 1.4mm or .055 inches all of the measurements were consistent. Do those numbers sound right? If so then I don’t not have a bent rod?

1.45-1.51 is stock millimeters WITHOUT GASKETS

this is why squish is inadequate for deto relief

you are good to go

DON'T DO DAT AGAIN
