I have seen a few of this, very hard to diagnose, easy to fix, may, or may not be whatcha got.

Some tail light bulbs can break one filament off inside the bulb, and it will arc against the other filament, making it look like the bulb is fine, and something else is wrong. I got to the point that if something wasn't very obvious, I changed the bulb. More than I would expect had the vibrated filament syndrome.

As I said, doesn't occur a lot, but can be frustrating if it does happen. I have a known good bulb in my tool box, "Checking bulb".

Although what you say is true and is also valid for fuse filament, in this case, he stated that the light works when key is in park position.

The bulbs I have seen that did this, lost one filiment on its grounded end, then arced the open end to the other filiment, worked, but not the way it was supposed to. Very weird thing to see, then see the filiments through the bulb glass.

I've seen only about a dozen like that in the 4 decades I have worked on our bikes.

Good morning guys.
The very first thing I did was to change the bulb. I then confirmed with a meter that I don't have voltage. Still probing around looking for that open circuit.

They(stanley) do not make bulbs like the use to.

I really do not think anyone does anymore.

Makes you gravitate to LEDs but most are crap and too big to fit.

cliff

ps
is Stanley still in biz? Japanese sourced originally as far as I do not know. :D

Just for fun, way back in the '70's I had a H2 headlight filament break and drop onto the other beam filament, like Dave described. That thing would shine like the sun, and I kept it going for ages. I got thru a lot of tail-light bulbs too, of course, in the old street -racing days!

You gotta get your H2 going and ride it up here Rod. Then we can hang out and talk about all the crap we did on our H2s back then.

Have you checked for continuity on the Bk/Y grounding wire to chassis ground? If there is voltage on the blue, it may be a grounding issue.
