I have read that the 1972 model uses 6+1 smaller spline friction plates.
What is recommended for replacement fiber plates? Just looking for regular street riding, nothing heavy duty.

My search seems to show Vesrah plates are no longer available. I found EBC, but a review on Ebay UK said they were too thin to use.
I see a set from Singapore made in Indonesia, but quality unknown. I don't want to buy NOS due to age.

I didn't find many options, but I did get a new set finally.

What brand plates did you buy? One of my bikes has EBC and they tend to stick when the bike hasn't been run for awhile. Otherwise they are fine.

I bought a set from Diablo. They sell a set of six, and then I bought one more for the one under the band, It took a little time to file down the splines to fit, but came out nice.
They have the angled cut, but I'm not sure of the manufacturer.

What's the deal with the spring rings 13229-003 in the clutch? Do they help with disengaging? I have never seen them when working on the clutches of my bikes from other brands.

Yes, that's the idea... to reduce drag when you're stopped in gear. My Barnett plates have always dragged a little anyway. About 40 years ago I learned to get to neutral before I stop and I don't notice the drag any more. 40,000 miles later the same Barnett plates are still in there and still fine, too.

I run stock friction plates, and the expansion rings, but always use all 5 Barnett springs, and other than a bit stiffer clutch lever, no problems with drag, slip, shifting.

Hi, I've just about finished restoration of my 72 H2 but when attempting to ride it, there was so much clutch drag that shifting is almost impossible. Shifting into neutral at a stop won't happen. I have replaced everything except the clutch basket and drive hub since neither are worn and the shaft bushing is free and smooth operating. I replaced the release mechanism, first with a fancy brass one that I found out didn't push the plates apart far enough, then an OEM. After trying different friction plates (now on OEM), new drive plates, expansion springs, clutch springs and clutch cable the drag is reduced but still there. Still can't shift into neutral while stopped. I'm using ATF for trans fluid as per the factory manual.
I don't want to damage the shift forks by riding it this way.
Does anybody know anything else I can try?
When I first got this bike back in the 90's, I rode it and there was no clutch drag at all. My original H2 back in the 70's never had clutch drag problems. I'm stumped!
