What’s the correct float height measured from bottom of carb gasket joint? Have read 30.5mm - is this correct?

No
There is a difference between float height and fuel level.

One person on this web board did a test to set his liquid levels. He modified a float bowl to hold a clear tube to look at the fuel level.

He ended up with 3 different float settings, but same fuel levels.

Static float levels should work at 24/25 mm's, set with the carb sitting 90 degrees from the way to is mounted on the cylinder, bottom of the float to the gasket surface, no gasket in place.

Jet from there. Too high a liquid level, too rich, too low, too lean, hesitation. .

I never measure anything when I'm on Beer, and I never make simple typos, either!! (grabs another beer...!)

Whenever I measure, it's always bigger with beer.

Fuel level is what tuner says is first/most important carb setting.
Not float level!

Main points are,

Typo's occur, live with them.

On the liquid levels, as in the same suction on a straw that is in a mass of liquid, the lower the liquid level, the harder it is to pull the liquid up the straw, and conversely, higher liquid, easier. When the liquid is also metered, as in jetting, this suction to column/pressure depression is sensitive to the weight of the liquid level, and should be set right to match the engineering structure the original setup was done within.

Simple as that.

Had the H1 out today after having the carbs apart. Found the float heights well out at ~29mm instead of 24. Off for a test ride, went onto reserve when I was at full bore...then refused to run properly. Back home found lack of compression on one pot, and then ominous ally specks on the centre spark plug.

Anyone out there have a std 60.00 piston looking for a home?

The flat spot may have been a lean spot that started that damage, and running out of fuel just finished the job. I doubt if all that damage happened quickly.
