All paint will dull with heat, how fast just depends on how much heat you put in them and how long. If you do have a heat gun, my cheapy HB would get my pipes to 300f. I would just do a section at a time after the paint set.

Just curious, has anyone ceramic coated a set of pipes? The comment about header paint made me think of this. Probably way more money then anyone would want to spend but I thought I'd inquire.

Yes, it's been done with good results.

I used some black ceramic spray paint from VHT. It has "Flame Proof" on the label, and has somewhat complicated instructions that tell how to cure it properly. I used it on my Moto Guzzi's head pipes and it worked pretty well. It was better than most high temperature paints. The only complaint was that kicked up stones tended to chip it, but it wasn't hard to touch up the small chipped places every year or two. It doesn't degrade with heat or turn grey at all. Chambers don't get hot enough to cure the stuff though, except at the head pipes, so I decided that putting it on just the head pipes and painting the rest with anything you like would be a good way to go.

yea I just prepped the head pipes , then blended to the existing cured paint , just like Tim suggest turned out great so far. The DENCOS are not perfect but satisfactory for a runner. to get real nice probably just by new chambers , ceramic or jet coating ,chroming etc. far exceeds the cost I want to spend on these chambers.
