These guys can be finicky with their starting procedures. Try different ones. And you can use the throttle, but a very light touch.

Cold starting can be an indication of how rich or lean the idle jetting is. If you need a lot of choke on a cold start, then the idle and low end jetting is too lean. I find, most two strokes, once I get the idle jetting where the bike likes to run best warm, it shouldn't need more than 10 to 20 seconds of choke to be able to idle without it. I ran into an issue with the TM34 carbs with the choke, they have removable choke jets, and were far too rich as supplied. Needed choke to start cold, but would quickly foul and drop a cylinder if even a few more seconds of choke were used. Note all this only applies to engines with good crank sealing and decent compression.

I always stop my triples with the choke (if it's going to to be parked up over night)
I found this made it easier to start the next morning
If you do this and then change your mind and go to ride again while the bike is still warm you'll need to use WOT when you kick it over or the bike won't start

My H2 started taking 6 to 8 kicks to start when cold, then started needing more when warm. The problem was getting worse.

End of story....I had a stuck ring.

Just a thought.

One cause of poor starting from cold is blocked starter jets.
The jet is in the bottom of the float bowl.
The jet is not removable, you will need to clean the jet with a piece of wire.

Very interesting, I will check the three carburettors carefully, so I will take the opportunity to fit 40 instead of 35 starter jets. Thank you.
