My H2B has been draining the battery down as it sits. No biggie to ride, magneto CDI is good like that. Is charging fine I think, headlight is bright, have not checked voltage at the battery with the motor running. However, I need to figure it out. I disconnected the positive battery terminal and attached a multimeter to the terminal and ground. When I turn the key on (no battery connected), it goes to close to zero, a closed circuit, as it should. But when I turn the key off, it slowly gains ohms, so goes from an open circuit to 2000 ohms or more. I went through some of the main things, moved switches, opened the headlight and looked for shorts or rubbed wires, checked the under seat wire bundle, looked inside the LH handlebar switch, disconnected the brake light out box, nothing looks out of place nor makes any difference. Any ideas?

the problem is usually around the steering neck where the wires have to bend all the time. Move them around and see if the oms fluxuates.

I sort of did that, does make sense, ill look again. The mystery to me is why the ohms start to increase when i switch the key off, like its not a direct short.

Disconnect the red lead to the regulator and see if it goes open circuit.

Yes, that made it go to an open circuit.

Looks like you have found the source of problem....
New regulator or add diode per http://kawatriple.com/bulletins/73h-9.pdf
for fix.

But its a Jim's regulator, with less than 600 miles on it...... :(

Unsure about Jim's regulator circuitry.... I would doubt that Jim's regulator is faulty.
I know that he has an added capacitor that may be why you get a reading as you have described.
