Thanks @cliff

I am going to go with the "ran dry" idea - and just install the other pump I have that works properly. I'll be looking at one of the check valves next that is suspect ... ie. leaky
These pumps are both off H2's ('72) so interesting your comment about being 180 deg off vs. H1.
The index flat is in same position on all 3 H2 pumps I have.

Thanks to all for your responses & help.

Tony

Your pump sounds like a candidate for a scientific study on what goes wrong when neglected.

If you sign this and that and are able to donate the specimen, it would be helpful to all humanity.

Reality...

Let's see what happened if you want to send it for us all to know.

Have anyone else seen such a pump wear?

How much "slop" does the cam have in its bore in the pump housing? I have seen them mis-assembled to give more tension than needed on the cam and baile (cable wheel), which makes the cam sit in its bore at an angle on the top of the bore, and make the cam erode the body away from the center of the upper part of the bore.

Tuner, are the H1 and H2 camshafts(sic) 180° out on the index flats?

Never really noticed since I am small boy town H1 only.

Is that pix, that shows max lift and flat for baile 180° from what I know of?

cliff

Cam off another model?

Just curious.

@ cliff : I stumbled across this video that compares the H1 and H2 bails and I noticed the index notch is identical for both. So maybe that helps answer your question earlier.

@ H2Tuner: I've not had a chance to measure the slop in the bore on the pump, however I did not notice any that I could feel while working with it. I've since taken a better pump and moved on to getting the check valves sorted. I think I see where you are going though with your idea on the uneven wear that would have put the cam at an angle.

Thanks - Tony
