I used my lathe to fab up a tube, one with a bar insert on the top, two cutting edges on its bottom, fits over the stud, and inside the stud bore on the cylinder.

I thought of that also... looked for such a tool.. this would be best way...thought of getting a steel pipe the right I/D and O/D size and filing in teeth on one end for cutting. It is only cutting Aluminum.. go a little.. suck out chips... go some more .. Did not find such a hard pipe... Yes if you have machine shop you can make and even flutes to let chips escape. I think you could sell for nice price. I was surprised I could not find such a tool. Closest was wood dowel cutters. Since no tool cheaper for me to buy another cyl.

The way I cut my cyl, the piece can be welded back on and should work fine, cut was inside front and would not be seen easily....It hurt to do the cut, knowing finite amount exist in the world
