cables keep coming out of the slides i have the little butterfly clip in place ??

Either they are loose, or you are not sliding them over the insertion hole.

No the X clip needs to be moved over the install hole. That way the cable can't come out.

John's talking about the retaining plate (butterfly clip) that you turn to cover the larger insertion hole you fed the cable end through.
If its just one slide doing it, pull one of the others out and see what it looks like for an example.

i'm doing all of that and know exactly how that works
could it be possible that the cable needs to be adjusted before i try and move the slides
i've just put the cable on and have not adjusted anything when this happens

Dont see why if the springs are in there to provide tension, how the cables can back out if the retainer plates are over the holes?????
Saw an earlier post of yours about throttle rods, they playing any part in slide height?

i seem to have got them working kept doing the same thing the same way and their working
,i think the cable might have been twisted around the idle rod and was slipping out of the butterfly clip on the side that has a small slit
