I seem to have an ongoing oil leak from the bottom of my H2B engine. It's gear oil. It's not coming from either side cover or shift shaft seal, sprocket or clutch pushrod seal. There is some on the back of the gearbox and I don't have the oil breather tube, but didn't think that would cause it, think the low pressure from behind the gearbox might cause the oil to swirl up there from underneath. Pretty sure it's not the oil drain plug gasket. I don't know if the cases were sealed around the studs, between bearings etc. I did have the carbs leak earlier but have fixed that finally. Any tips?

When I can't find the source of an oil lead right away I use talc powder or sometimes flour. I clean the bottom of the engine real good and with a sponge covered with powder I kind of "poof" it all over the leak area. You should be able to trace the origin of the leak this way. It is a little messy but worth it.

I'll see if I can do that, a hard area to figure out with all the crankcase ribs and the center chamber under there as well. I had a feeling it was coming from a case stud, but that is a low point so it would go to there anyway. The cases have had the mounts sleeved by my brother, I don't think those are a leak source though, knowing him the bushes will be shrunk in place tight, and shouldn't go through to the inside.

A couple of things to remember, the transmission oil capacity is 1.30 to 1.50 quarts of gear oil, and, some Kawasaki's have somewhat compromised side stands, allowing the bikes to sit at a rather more acute angle on them, which raises the level of the oil against the clutch push rod and output shaft seals when the bike is on that more aggressive side stand angle.

Just a couple of things to consider.

Because of my chambers, and the fact that I didn't have an H2 side stand, I made this one out of a KZ750 stand, cut and welded it to fit. I don't like bikes that lean over too far on the side stand so this one doesn't. I'm building a center support lift for the bike now to be able to lift both wheels off the ground at once to service it easier, I'll get a better look when I can get it up like that I hope.

For my H2R engined street H2, I did a set of very tucked in chambers. I literally moved and rewelded the side stand mount on the frame. I also dislike laying the bike over on it's side from a compromised side stand. As race bikes have, I built both rear and front end axle stands to hold the bike straight when needed.
