I would like to fire my project before breaking it back down for paint, polish, powder coat. I havnt heard either one of my H2 engines run yet. It was once wired up as a hill climber or drag bike, so CDIs and regulator are in a box with wires everywhere. What is the minimal wiring I can do to fire it? Also, when it goes back together for the final time Im only running a headlight w hi/lo , tail/brake light and a horn. No other lights.

Just the ignition wires from the stator to the boxes and coils. make sure you have a grounding wire for a kill wire, if the motors revs off on you.

What about the regulator/rectifier? Will I cook the boxes without them?

Connect the two yellow wires from the alternator together and insulate them, and you'll be fine. It sounds odd, but it reduces parasitic engine load and makes the alternator run cooler than leaving them open. It also prevents unwanted voltages on the CDI units.
