When I put the H2 motor back together I damaged the neutral switch. Well, at least the black plastic housing, it cracked and broke because I overtightened the screw that attaches it.

I bought a replacement part from Jess and reinstalled the switch. Now the switch works sometimes. After riding for awhile the switch tends to be on all the time or off all the time, regardless of whether the bike is in neutral or in gear.

I don't think it had a gasket but I see one pictured on the photo from Diablo website. Is it possible I need a gasket to keep the switch from grounding at the wrong time? I tried looking on Kawasaki parts fiches and didn't locate the neutral switch, it might be there somewhere but I didn't find the fiche.

It just grounds the light in neutral. It's plastic so it doesn't need a gasket.

If it's on when in gear it may be that the copper tab is touching the case.
Try loosening the screw a bit and put it in gear... move the switch a bit and see if the light goes out.
If it isn't lighting in neutral the copper tab probably needs to be bent out just a little to make contact.
Be careful... it will break off easily.
