The one that failed was Jim's box but it was 5 yrs old. Thank goodness I had my old stocker.

You sure it was a full five? Was it a rebuild, or a single box?

Edit: I found the information, it was a rebuild in early 2012. Send me an email please, so I can work something out to help.

Jim, does the too high voltage from the original voltage regulator end up killing the CDI boxes?

No, the ignition system is powered by magneto coils in the alternator, which are completely separate from the 12v system. An H2 or a late H1 will run with no battery installed.

I was asked by Jim to ship back the CDI to him. He tested it and it passed every test working flawlessly! Must have been a bad ground somewhere on my bike? Anyway, a big shout up and props to Jim for his excellent customer service!

disconnecting the ignition boxes and not draining that capacitors will kill the boxes if you refit and try to kick start, they somehow get double charged and blow the thyristor. .

A good ignition system will fire by removing the plugs and putting a 13mm wrench on the rotor and turning by hand, even a light kick with no plugs will / should produce a healthy spark
