Post subject:  Name That Noise

Thought I would post this for a bit of entertainment and for my own education.
Back story;
My nephew was riding my H2 and was running about 7000 rpm at around 3/8 throttle or less for WAY to long , and it was surging bad and it seized up. He pulled it over I was behind him, we let it cool for a min and it would still kick over, so we let it cool some more and got it running. Seemed ok, drove the next day for quite awhile. It was slightly noisier than before but I just ignored it best I could.
I have put about 20 miles on it since then.
Started it tonight to ride over to my shop just a few minutes away and MAN it seemed noisy!
Sent a quick video to John, so he has seen/heard it, but I thought why not post it and then when I tear into it I will post whatever I find AND as always more eyes and ears are always better, I always need as much help as possible :D

I won't get into the cylinders for a few weeks but any best guesses as to the noise and its seriousness?
Johns given me his opinion already …and I hate him for it :P :lol: ;)

Sounds like typical piston slap from a little excessive clearance to me.

Sounds like a Kawasaki to me.....with a recently seized piston.

Bummer, weird that it sounded fine right after it happened, maybe the rings finally jammed.
Pick up some miratic acid on your way home to clean up the cylinder of any aluminum. "Likely" it will be ok and just need a new piston, maybe a hone.

Of course, piston(s), but, throw in a rod, or two, with it as well.

I didn't know it had happened, but when he pulled into Leelanau I did ask him if it normally sounded that rattley . . . . . So, I concur . . . it IS new piston time and mortice acid on the bore . . . :cry:

Ya it was a bit more rattly on that ride, when you asked I was really trying to ignore it, it has been a bit rattly even before the seize at your place, and now it seems to be getting more rattly the last two starts and its got more engine vibration than before.
This motor when I first put it together didn't vibrate much in my opinion, I had heard how bad they were solid mounted but I was surprised to find it wasn't so.....Now it is vibrating!

I certainly hope theres no crank problems :roll:

Just a simple pair of questions, what piston make and type, and what clearance were they set up at, please? NOT being sarcastic, just very interested.

I could be going a bit deaf but I honestly didn't hear anything out of the ordinary on the side of the road when you first fired it up, definitely nothing at all like the video and I never had a listen after the ride back. I can only assume that it's progressively getting worse, so don't fire it up again until you take it apart, you will only wreck the cylinder more.
