My high beam dash light would come on when using the brakes. The dash harness did not have the brake light warning bulb extension, and had been cut. I bought a whole dash and used the harness from it. I can't find any info on this brake light warning light, and had assumed the light would come on when the tail light brake circuit had a problem, but the warning light comes on whenever I use the brakes now, and the tail brake light works ok. What is normal? Do I have something wrong or is this how it is supposed to work?

Thanks! Interesting, the light flashes when a fault is found, suppose I could pull the tail light bulb out to test if it actually works.

Yeah, it's a bit of a distraction to have a red light glow on the tach when braking, but I'm getting used to it. A sidestand warning light would have been a better safety warning than a taillight bulb out I think.

No, as far as brake light operation goes, the most stupid condition is being rammed into by another vehicle from the rear, because the brake light DOESN'T WORK.

I had this happen to one customer when I had my shop in Merced, Air Force person, on base, had just fidden his Honda V65 out of his barracks parking area and onto the street, waiting for the main road to clear, gets rammed in the rear by THE BASE COMMANDER'S WIFE, in her Lincoln. This was right after the Air Force had instituted a new rule for motorcycle riders, the very next day, riders had to wear those orange road worker's vests, so other drivers would bee them, stick out like a sore thumb. He was wearing his orange vest when the ramming occurred.

The base commander's wife said, after the rear end ramming.....wait for it.....I DIDN'T EVEN SEE HIM STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME".

The Kawasaki brake light failure notification system never did seem stupid, not useless to me. I installed them on many bikes back then.

It's not stupid to have a system that warns you that your light is burnt out, but they could have easily wired it to illuminate when the light is malfunctioning, not when it's working. That is what is stupid about this particular system.

I have even wired the processor module for them into neutral lights, too. Since our stock street bike neutrals on H series are at the bottom of the shift pattern, a flashing neutral light isn't a bad thing in some instances.
