I modified the slides on my H2 to decrease the cutaway by removing some material from the bottom of the slides. I am now considering installing UFOs which means I will need to 'reverse' my modification. Has anyone done this? I am inclined to use JB weld but am worried that adding it to the bottom of the slides could result in it breaking off sometime in the future and being ingested in the engine. I'm also not sure if it will stand up to occassionally contacting the bottom of the carburetor

I have the early chrome plated brass slides, fwiw

I would think soldering on brass extensions would be more reliable than epoxy, but you still have to be concerned about the longevity.

That's a good thought Jim. I wonder if brazing would work? I think the chrome plating might start getting damaged at those temperatures too?

If you don't already have the UFO's I suggest ordering them and then evaluate the fit with the UFO and the slide to determine if you'll need to build it back up.

UFOs aren't super cheap so I am hoping to figure this out before ordering them

Slides are definitely not cheap!

Would it be easier to trim the UFOs to match your slide mod?

Lots of guys with H2's are interested in cutting the bottom of the slides to make them slightly richer - maybe you can find someone who wants the mod done who is willing to trade unmodified slides?

To hold the UFO inserts into the slides, first, drill and countersink two holes in the floor of the slide, then drill/tap the UFO insert, screw the UFO onto the slide. Countersunk type flat head screws, 4/40 or 6/32 thread, should be small enough to fit two into the bottom of the slide, and still have the cable retainer plate fit and hold the cable down in the slide. The countersink should be on the SPRING end of the slide, NOT the bore end.

"Gluing" a UFO in place isn't the good way to do it.

That's a good thought. I'll investigate it. Thanks for the idea!
