My friend asks what paint is recommended for engine cases. I used the search function, didn't find an answer.

Any decent enamel works fine.

Back in the late '70s, VHT engine enamel was excellent for that. With use, it slowly baked into a rock-hard impervious coating. I tried to get it off my cylinders and heads to repaint a couple years ago, and it had to be blasted off. Even paint stripper wouldn't touch it. Unfortunately, the current VHT engine paint does not seem to be the same stuff. If you find something good, let me know, and I'll do the same for you.

According to PJ1, this paint is the old VHT material.
https://www.amazon.com/PJ1-16-GLS-Gloss ... lack+paint

They say it's best to buy from a dealer as the Amazon stuff might be old; they also offer it in semi and flat finishes.
It works well after you bake it for about 30 minutes at 250 degrees F.
I just used what was left over from a 20 year old can and it actually sprayed and worked well.
1 in a million chance

It wold be great to be able to buy the old VHT engine paint. Where did you see PJ1 saying their paint is the same?

Back in the early 1970's, the go-to company for bike paints was Lubri-Tech. The black case paint was a 60/40 mix, 60 percent gloss, 40 percent flat.

If this, I've used a Sharpie oil based paint marker...worked great

Yes, that's all I meant. I just asked the question because my friend wanted to know. I would've just used rustoleum without asking.

Thanks for the replies!
