Hi, building a race bike h1 out of bits. Engine came with absolutely nothing (h1) iggy wise so I had to start with nothing.
All I had in my boxes was h2 pickups and stator. So I decided to run total loss, battery, 12v dc cdi units from scooters. Ended up buying Kymco scooter CDIs and coils hoping they would be compatible with the h2 pickups.
Well they don't seem to work when I tried mocking them up on my other late H1 D street bike.
I don't really know what to do now.
All I know is the Kymco system does use a flying magnet/typical looking pickup.
I don't want to start buying pickups and flywheels without knowing if they will work.
I just want to mount a magnet straight on the end of the crank and three pickups.
Mechanically I can do anything. Electrix has me a bit stumped.
Anyone here done a similar system that can help out and advise what bits to buy? Cheers.

Otherwise, the build is going good. :D

Coops-
Does it need to be CDI?

Don't know anything about Kymco scooter CDI so can't help there.
When you say "total loss", to me, that means no charging sys or battery.
The H2/H1d system will allow that.
And, it would be pretty simple to do.
You can get an "all in one" cdi box from Lakeland.
You need H1D (or modified H2) alternator rotor and timing rotor.

Doesn't have to be CDI. I was toying with a chain saw iggy, but that would give me no advance at all.

Total loss is no charging system so I have to charge the battery about every 4 races.(lunch time) The idea behind removing the stator rotor and windings is removing a heap of dead weight, rotating weight and more so removing about 3 inches from the end of the crank for ground clearance.
The 14AH shorai battery weighs 1.6 pounds.
The Kymco CDI is the same as any DC CDI I think. Well the terminal blocks on them are. Simple, One wire in from pickup, one wire out to coil, ground and power.

I have 3 Dyna S pickups and a magnet in a aluminum piece on the crank. It is total loss, all you need are the magnet, pickups and coils. Saved 3lbs 12oz on the crank. I have the same system on my A1 race bike also.

What CDIs are you running?
