Anyone ever used one of these units?

I've had one for quite some time for the odd multi carbed vehicle that rolls through the doors these days.
Saturday I actually had my shop to myself. I "called it" earlier in the week. ( we're a Mon-Fri business )

So I rolled my bike lift into the middle of a bay, cranked up some Allman Brothers and spent some time with my H2.

I'd static synced the TM34 carps I'd purchased so the slides all moved equally and at the same time.
I figured I'd use that tool to measure actual airflow through them at idle and at 3000 rpm.

They were all different by a large margin with the center cylinder flowing the most air.

So I loosened the lock nuts on the cable adjusters at the top of the carbs and adjusted the cables so that airflow was the same for all three cylinders at idle and 3000 rpm.

I rechecked the static adjustment and sure enough the carb on the center cylinder opens later than the left and right ones.
In fact the carbs now open in this order, Left, Right then Center.
I'd never used that tool on my bike before.
The motor "sounds" noticeably smoother.
I wonder what the results would be with chambers instead of that Cycle Stop 3-1 pipe.
It makes me wonder if the collector with it's scavenging effect is causing different airflow through the cylinders.

Perhaps I should install a set of chambers and see what results I get.
It does sound cool with that pipe though.

I wonder if I'm trying to re-invent the wheel?

Uni-Syn has been used on Triples for years and is a good tool to use if done properly.

There are actually two adjustments, idle (by the idle set screws in the sides of the carbs), and with the cables pulling the slides up off idle.

There used to be two Uni-Syn models, one is as Edelbrock sells now, vial attached to the flow setting device. The other is one that has separate flow setter and vial, with a section of flexible hose between them. I have both, like the separated one the best.

I also use a mercury manometer fed with vacuum fittings in each carb, like the fuel valve hose fitting the one stock carb has, much nicer to use.

At the Kaw shop I worked at, the mechanics had a 3 port unison that they used on the H1 carbs and other triples after 71.
It was a 1 piece unit that was held against all 3 carbs at once.
Then you adjusted to get all 3 floats in it at the same level.
As pointed out, it is also very important for all slides to move in (no pun) unison
and should lift at the same time.

How can you use one to set float level??? :?:

You just did the adjustments backwards Craig. ;) once you get the vacuum even then adjust the cables so they all move at the same time.

I'm guessing Steve is referring to the floats of the sync tool?

Dat is a BIG 10-4 man.
The little floats in the vacuum tubes.
When they were all set to the same level, it supposedly meant the air draw on each was equal.
Thats what I thought, I was a parts man....

hahahaha

I do recall it being a 2 man job...
