Post subject:  Counter shaft Sprocket Seal

Hi all, I've done numerous searches and have found many threads talking about the o ring replacement, but can't find any talking specifically about the counter shaft seal replacement. I replaced the o ring and torqued the sprocket properly, but it's still leaking a ton of oil. Can any one advise? Can I do this without splitting the cases?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Counter shaft seal is pretty easy to do when the sprocket and sleeve that slides on the transmission shaft are removed. Maybe Moo has a video, I'm searching you tube and not finding it at the moment.

No video, they pull out real easy when the sleeve is off. Just be careful when installing the new seal. And you are sure it is coming from behind the sprocket?

Doesn't the "book" tell you to put the O-ring in the wrong place, which causes leaks....can't remember off-hand..?

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm pretty certain it's coming from the sprocket. I first thought it was a shifter seal and replaced that, but still leaked. When I tried pulling on the sleeve, it was pretty stuck. I replaced the o ring and haven't gone back in to mess with it. I didn't want to chance screwing up the sleeve, so I didn't force it. Is there anything special or tricks to pulling it?

Thanks again

The 22 mm oring goes behind the collar/ sleeve
So in other words yes the manual is wrong and oring
Goes between transmission bearing and collar
The collar has a bevel too
Collar seal is replaced easily with collar out
Look closely for possible leak near clutch push rod as well

Thanks. To confirm that is where I placed the o ring. I saw in another thread that the manual was wrong. Any tricks with the sleeve, or just grab it with channel locks and pull? I just didn't want to screw it up.

Thanks again for the help.

The sleeve should pull out by hand...you can coax it gently with channel-locks, but don't scratch it .

Man, I don't know what's wrong, but this sleeve won't budge with vice grips or channel locks. Any ideas? Could the seal be replaced with the sleeve in place?
