I'm at the point in the project of making a choice on which way to go. It is a cafe track style bike with full lights that will see some street action. There is no original battery box and I am now wondering about running one of the battery bypass resistors to save weight. I have never used one before and am not sure how to hook them up or how effective they are on this electrical system. I also can just use a normal stock battery or a small lithium battery. Looking for some experience in this area. I was originally just going to put a gel cell in it so that was plan #1 but have been also interested in the battery bypass option.

Your just looking for a cheap quick fix,

If you are not going to use it at night, nor care if the turn signals are bright, then go with a 100,000 mf capacitor (or smaller) I use to buy them at Army surplus for $5 a pop

Just my $0.02......I have been using one of Jim's regulators on my 75 H2 which allows you the option of not using a battery (I believe this only applies to the H2 and 73 H1D), and though I only ride during the daytime I have not missed the battery at all. I love how I have one less battery to worry about going dead!

To answer your question, its the stock 1974 h2 system with Jims CDI box. It currently has the stock regulator in it. Thanks all for the input.

In that case, RB's reply is a good answer.... the other (more expensive but good) alternative is Jim's regulator with built in cap.

I think running a Lakeland regulator is the way to go for me. Then I have the option of running a battery or not and have a new quality regulator to go along with his CDI units.
