I needed to modify a kickstarter to clear a chamber set. Required cutting and welding back at changed angle. I have a buddy who is a very experienced high level welder. Anyone had problems in the past with the penetration nut getting deep enough in the forge and the weld breaking off?

When it's welded together, the ends should be ground to a point, creating a vee groove all around . Then it gets welded down in the bottom of the vee, and layers added until it's flush or a little above. When done that way, it shouldn't have any problems in use.

I just heated mine with a propane torch red hot and held it in the bench vise and bent it to suit, I also had the same issue with the kicker hitting the pipe and it has worked fine since ..

wow johnny . its funny how different paint color can change the look of a bike .
i think the darker scheme makes it look smaller .
also makes a change from all the light blue ones

You're saying those aren't Lesters?

I would say not to cut the kick start as the resulting welded joint could come out softer than the rest of the arm, heating ,bending and cooling down in oil is my recommended solution
