You need a micrometer to use that. Find TDC then with the micrometer add the 3 whatever mm to the length and reinstall. Make sure you are BTDC and pun the piston up until it touches. Or just use a digital caliper. Timing is not your problem, but it does need to be correct.

OK I understand.

Guess I can't do much before the Lakeland box arrives. It will be interesting to see if it solves this.

It's on the way as of this morning.

Read through this entire thread. Just my $0.02 worth, but seems like you have worked over the ignition and fuel delivery paths pretty well. I would start looking for more obscure problems; vacuum leak, cylinder base gasket, plugged muffler, collapsed piston skirt on the intake side, things like that.

I bought this kit to do a leak down test:

Pretty nice stuff but a bit expensive. Unfortunately it seems to be intended more for Yamahas and Hondas. None of the expansion plugs did fit into the exhaust and the inlet adapters are designed for rubber mounts. The pump can test pressure, but not vacuum that I now understand is important too.

I think it's usable on my Yamaha RZ350 though so not a complete waste but a bit of a bummer.

I need to come up with something different, maybe something similar to this: http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/cranksealtes ... altest.htm

Lakeland box arrived safe, thanks Jim!

Box switched now and spark on all plugs, but turned out it's not the ignition units or rectifier that are the problem.

Don't keep us in suspense.

Ops sounded like I found the problem but haven't unfortunately.

So you mean you now have good spark on all three cylinders, but it's still not firing on all three? Is the problem still just the middle cylinder? This thread is very long... what's the sumary? You swapped carbs, maybe more than once, what did that do?

Yes it's only middle cylinder.

I have spark with the plugs laying on the cylinder heads. Could cut off the electrode on an old plug and see if it jumps, as suggested earlier in the thread?

Swapped complete carb assys with left cylinder but it didn't move the problem.
