I have not.
I met a guy at triples outing at the Gap years ago who called himself Dr. J.
Super knowledgeable older guy that worked at a cycle shop and was very familiar with older bikes as well as turbo conversion, nitrous, etc. for modern bikes.

He was the one that gave me the idea to try cartridge emulators and to use 15 weight Torco RFF semi-synthetic fork oil that had a very low stiction.
He felt this oil was very important to use.
He also said that of they didn’t have 15, you could make it by mixing 10 + 20 weight (which I did) and to use the stock quantity to get started.

Any suggestions as to what brand, viscosity, and quantity to start with to combat fork dive?

For that matter, I never tried adjusting the cartridge emulators as the ride / handling was much better and I didn’t want to temp fate.
Of course, that was a long time ago and fate has long since been forgotten…

I was a bit taken back when I found out the emulators still only effect rebound damping. So there is still NO compression damping. heavier oil will not help fork dive. Stronger springs or more oil is the answer.

Sounds like you are well on your way Jim C

I had HVC cycle setup my front end, this was early on my build, knowing what I know now, I would have done it myself, but their suspension guy got my weight (FAT), the bike, the geometry, shock height..........man the front end is awesome and I can jump on the brakes hard, no problem..........wheelies no problem

I am not sure I can fully agree on the dampening with the gold valves, they drill a series of holes and fill some others, I have read though that they are mainly for rebound......don't know, but it works

175cc of 15W fork oil

HVC cycle part number for the springs is
RaceTech FRSP S2341100 $135.99
Not sure if they had to trim those, can call and ask

Did he have a red and white cafe T500? I have pics of it somewhere including the sticker on his tail section showing his business name, address and phone number... Stunning bike too!

It was definitely a beautiful red and white cafe style bike and a T500 sounds right.
It wasn’t Doctor J, but rather Doctor James and a super nice and knowledgable gentleman.

I have a piece of ss rod but the diameter is too large to fit in...

Actually a chisel, carefully used will break the old bushings apart.

I recently found out, that this information was inaccurate, the emulators DO effect compression and rebound damping. So yes, I can see them as a good upgrade.
