I was going to mention that Cliff, but I saw in his signature he has a 74 H2B and no H1s so I assumed that is what he was talking about.

The aftermarket handle bar rubbers are stiff as steel when installed. My originals were generally ok, maybe dried over the past 50 years as one would image, but no visible damage, distortion or cracks. I could tell they were still much squishier than these aftermarket ones I got via ebay.

So I tried the aftermarket anyways and now the handle bars don't wiggle at all vs before. what did I expect. Duh. As stated my Suz T500 and T350 they do wiggle a reasonable amount, handle as well as late 60s eary 70s bikes do and my criteria for this bike as it solved the handlebar vibration problems enough my hands never tingle even after long rides.

I see a few oem rubbers here and there but my concern was they may have been exposed for 50 years and dry as well i'll shop carefuly as one possiblt can from ebay and try and avoid shelf damage.

The rubbers get pressed a lot before the washer and nut reach the shoulder of the bolt. Even backing off a few turn makes a difference

ideas would be to.

try true oem one that have been stored well.

add a bit of shim to shoulder bolts position. not much room but some.

reduce diameter of rubbers some, so when compressed wont be as stiff.

I would not advice any one do this. me, I wont go any looser than my Suz handle bars with its oem rubber mounts

yes, I may get the later engine case if my feet still tingle.

thanks.

Ride them!

Let it shake, if I want a smooth ride I will ride a 4 cylinder 4 stroke. I like when it hits the pipe and vibrates like all hell is going to break loose then the wheel comes off the ground. Hit 2nd, more vibes, hit the high note one more time and if we are fortunate enough we become a unicycle again.

My first motorcycle was my H2, and it was the only one I had for about 35 years, so to me a little vibration was just part of riding. Now smooth 4-strokes seem strangely sedate.
