All good but trying too get better dog engagement in 5th gear. I can see two options.
Moving the 20thou shim between the 5th gear and circlip and putting on the other side of the gear. But this means the gear is running against the circlip, which i dont think is a good idea?
Or shimming the whole input shaft over (inboard) 20 thou and compensate appropriatley with shims on the other end which i can do.
Moving the input shaft 20 thou, will this affect the clutch?
If i do shim for better engagement i will have too grind 5 thou off the dogs for addequate dog clearance.
Maybe i should just leave it alone?

Aren't there thinner shims available? And the loading on the top gears are not as high, so you can get away with not as deep enguagement. As long as the forks and dogs are good......

No, 20 thou is as thin as they get. and 40 thou. Of coarse they can be ground thinner but in this case id rather not grind it thinner because its on its own sitting between 5th gear and circlip.
Forks are new and dogs are good (2nd-5th background 2 degrees)
Ive had a few ideas today and my latest and best :D is
The said gear (5th input) has 16thou sideways clearance which is quite alot. So im going too have 8thou ground off the gear on the dog side, leave a 20thou shim there and have 40thou shim on other side.
This will kill 3 birds with 1 stone, Best engagment possible, enough dog clearance and have 4thou sideways clearance.
Thanks Moo
