I RECENTLY REBUILT MY CLUTCH WITH ALL NEW FRICTION AND DRIVE PLATES AS WELL AS THE ORIGINAL STYLE SEPERATOR RINGS. THE BASKET WAS LIGHLY GROOVED, SO I FILED THE EDGES A BIT. NOW THE CLUTCH DOESNT DRAG OR SLIP AND IS QUIET WHILE THE LEVER IS OUT, BUT WHEN I PULL THE CLUTCH IN, THERE IS A WHIRRING, ALMOST TICKING SOUND. SOUNDS LIKE THE PRESSURE PLATE IS TOUCHING THE OUTER COVER. IS THIS POSSIBLE? I KNOW MOST CLUTCH NOISES GO --AWAY-- WITHOUT THE LEVER PULLED IN. (IT WORKS O.K.)

Yes, some new plates have tabs that stick out too far and hit the cover. If you take the cover off, you'll probably be able to see where it's hitting. Just shorten the tabs on the plates enough that they clear.

THANKS. THAT MAY JUST BE IT. THE FRICTION PLATES WERE OF THE 'INEXPENSIVE' VARIETY AND I BELEIVE THAT THAT MAY BE EXACTLY THE TYPE OF NOISE I HEAR. ZERO
