Thanks for the info, looking at wiring diagrams it appears that I could use a bosch type relay to ground the cdi unit with a KH250 (point model) type switch. it would energize the relay when in the run position holding the contacts open and grounding them when de-energized. It may be a challenge to hide the relay in a somewhat crowded headlamp bucket. I will look into other differences and possible work arounds.
