I am about to start to restore the ignition boxes on my '72 H2 and I was wondering what was the best method to replicate the gold CAD finish on the housings? Can they be stripped to replate or do you have to resort to using one of the fake CAD paint systems from Eastwood? Thanks, Kevin |

If you want to spend the money, I am sure they could be set in a caustic etch and then anodized or given what ever finish it was. Some folks have had good results with spray can applications. I painted mine a close gold color. |

The original plating was zinc, with a yellow chromate sealer, not cadmium. It's usually pretty inexpensive to have a plater redo them, but I don't know how easy it is to find one willing to work around the wiring. I know it's been done, however. I'd probably just paint them with a quick and dirty gold from the hardware store. Then when they fail, rebuild them and do a proper plating job at that time if you want an original type finish. |

They are easy to replate & the wires aren't a problem for a plater to work with. Just blast them first. |

Check Eastwood auto restore catalog. They have a lot of special cad and zinc colored spraypaint that would probably work. |
