I have an extra speedo for my 73 H2. Put it on to check it out and it worked fine. Steady needle movement and seems to be pretty accurate.

However, going over approximately 25 mph, the speedo starts, as best as I can describe, a low pitch squall.

Anyone had this problem and is there a reasonable fix? This speedo has the light blue numbers and has set for at least 20 years.

My speedometer started howling. 75 H1. There's a man, Don Fulsang, down in Florida. Does incredible restorations to gauges. When we spoke, he told me the drive can wallow or oval it's seat. I'm pretty sure he can repair that for you. My temp fix, was to remove the cable from the sheath. Looks attached, but no howling if you just need to ride. I'll try to attach a link to him if you can't find him searching members.

My tach did the same, Don F fixed it. Now quiet

The noise is the bearing on the input shaft of the instrument , turn the unit upside down and apply a small amount of lube, I use spray grease , not chain lube

I'd go light on the lube. I have zero experience with that, but seems it might sling up onto the gauge face and the underside of the glass? I'd contact Don first and ask someone with expertise.

I have had the same problem. Using a spray lube was unpredictable and would usually end up under the glass. Now I use something similar to 3 in 1 in a can and drip it in then quickly turn the gauge over to prevent it from flowing on the gauge face. The best way is to open the gauge and reapply grease.

He did say "a '73 H2" so no matter how much you spray the drive it can't get under the glass, however, he also stated Blue numbers, which would be from a later '72 H2 as opposed to the White numbers of a '73 H2a.
