I need a carbon brush for a late H1 stator. The 2 outer ones are numbered 21088-014,
inner are 21088-013 and need a outer. Is there a different carbon brush I can use
without having to buy the brush assy? The best price I can find is $50 on ebay for the
assemble but only need the brush. There must be a brush meant for something else that
will work.

I went to a small appliance repair shop where they allowed me to look thru their brushes. I found one that was too large but it was easily filed down to fit. Cost was $1 - $2.
I think I remember someone posting about a Yamaha brush that would work... not sure.

I think it was m in sc who posted about that. You might try a PM or email to him.

I just bought a carbon brush made for a Kawasaki #21088-007 for $12. It looks the same and I can
modify it if I have too. No way I wanted to pay $50 for the correct complete brush/holder when I
only need the brush.

That is for:
1968 F3 Bushwhacker IGNITION-GENERATOR-STARTER
1969 F3 Bushwhacker IGNITION-GENERATOR-STARTER
1970 F3 Bushwhacker IGNITION-GENERATOR-STARTER

Let us know how it fits.

Try these , theyre the right size, if you use them. you need to get some small crimps, the same size as go in to the headlamp plug and sockets , and crimp on to the end of the braided copper wire, then cut off the excess
Then you can solder this on to the original spot welded connection on the brush holder, reason is if you solder the braided copper directly it makes it snap off after a few test flexings,(dont ask how i know).
These brushes are too long as bought , so a bit of filing is required.
I also used the original springs as the ones that come on the new ones seemed a bit stronger, and also the small section of braided insulation on the cable as it goes through the hole in the brush holder.
Hope this helps.
