The S2 tank was the typical gummy rusty mess. Used toilet bowl cleaner, it got most but left some rust, then I used Evapo-Rust, looks very close to new. Just a minor discoloration from the gas being as a certain level for 15 years.

No nuts and bolts, battery chargers, just toilet bowl cleaner and Evapo-Rust, easiest yet.

POR-15 next for insurance and we are ready for paint.

Toilet bowl cleaner? Interesting!

Is POR15 still getting high regard? I've read on some of the other forums that it's failing with the ethanol fuel? They are praising the Caswell sealer. Brian has my H2C body set, and I sealed the tank with POR15. Before he paints it, I'm wondering if it should be sealed with something else?

Anyone had any issues with POR15?

Yep... Por-15 is sooo 2007.

(seriously, Por 15 does not stand up to modern "Swill" as well as Caswell)

So....seal over the POR15 with Caswell - or remove the POR15, and then seal with Caswell?? :wtf:

I talked to POR-15 and told the fellow of the failures of their product, he (Mark) said they tested the product with 100% ethanol and there was no breakdown of the product.

He said, the cause for most failures is that the tanks are not completely dry inside. He said after the Marine Clean and the Prep solution, drying the tank for even several days is recommended.

I am not saying that I won't have trouble but the tanks that I have done, I used a blow dryer for more than an hour blowing into the filler neck.

I can't verify the accuracy of his statement but I have not had any failures, but talk to me in 6 months, maybe I will be singing a different tune.

POR 15 takes forever to dry, is super thin. Caswell is thick and 2 part so sets quickly. I personally will never use POR 15 again.
