Gasket remover is good stuff. I've used penetrating oil in a pinch...
The "brush strokes" are normal.
The oil check valves can be removed with a few light taps. You will also find that heat properly applied is a great persuader.
As for the chain marks mine had them too. I cleaned them up with a file and left it at that. No one will see it when the sprocket cover is on.
Good Luck,
Jim

It's possible that warming the head tube could soften the adhesive. I often use a hot air gun to remove labels, but I don't know if this will help for a VIN label. Obviously you have to use care to not overheat the label. Possibly warming the back side of the head tube with a torch carefully would help.

As they have said previously. Just keep details of VIN and get RB to make one for you. They are a perfect copy.
Frame powder coat should still show frame number....mine did and 75% gloss was about perfect match.
Ditto on crank case valves...a light tap should do it. Marks on heads are fine and normal.
Chain rash is very common just file out smooth with a round file so no cracks can propagate then leave it as it is not seen.
Unless your going for 100 point concours restoration then do something about it.
Just keep doing steps every chance you get it will soon come apart and go together.....Good Luck

Ain't that the truth. I keep on running into more and more things to do. The latest is the connectors on the Turn Signal cables. I think I will have to rechrome the stems, so I need to remove the wiring. However the connectors are too big to fit through the stem so I will have to open them up and remove them. I was thinking since I am removing them, I should replace them, however I've been looking on the net for the last hour or so without finding anything similar. Anybody have a source?

Thank you for all of the other suggestions.

claudio
