| Post subject: | Who Rebuilds Fuel Petcocks? |
Found what I believe to be a pretty good stock fuel petcock; appears to be in good physical condition anyway but will need cleaning and rebuilding. Who can do a nice job on these? Currently have a Pingle but I'm concerned about not having a fuel reserve until I get more familiar with fuel mileage and at what miles empty happens. Thanks, Rusty34 |

OK,... looks like I need a rebuild kit, repro diaphragm from John Lutz, and a tube of fuel resistant grease from Aircraft Spruce and I should be in business. This one has quite a bit of caked up white corrosion in the inlet port, maybe more inside and the valve is stuck. Wonder if phoshoric acid will clean it up without attacking the base metal? Diaphragms are expensive and rarely fail. Attempting to turn a stuck lever can result in a broken lever. Disassemble it. Before reassembly, polish the lever where it mates with the 4 hole gasket. Be aware that there is a small spring inside that can easily be lost at disassembly. Phosphoric acid won't hurt it... brake cleaner would probably work just as well. |

Good work digging up that information. Go easy with the grease. Since it doesn't dissolve in gasoline, if you use too much, a blob could end up in a jet. If you need the little O-ring on the diaphragm's tapered plug, it's a size 007, and Viton is the material. |

And proper adjustment of the wave spring behind the lever is nessesary. To firm, you will chew the seal quickly, to loose, itl obviosly leak. Back off the two screws that hold the lever/spring untill it leaks. Thatl give you an idea how firm to adjust the spring. |
